Who We Are & Why We Exist

Built for Metal Roofers

Solar Metal Roofs Support Services (SMRSS) Ltd exists to give metal roofing contractors a simple, safe route into integrated solar roofing. The Roofit.Solar product — a full-metal, standing-seam or flat-lock solar roof — is rapidly becoming the premium choice for architects, self-builders, housing developers and heritage projects that demand aesthetics as well as performance.

The product itself installs exactly like a conventional metal roof. The complication — and the reason many roofers still hesitate — is everything that sits behind the panels: DC cabling, inverter selection, battery storage, AC connection, G98/G99/G100 grid applications, MCS certification, and export tariff registration.

SMRSS bridges that gap entirely. You win the roofing contract, you supply and fix the Roofit.Solar panels, and we design, install, test, certify and hand the client a fully commissioned system. You keep control of the roofing package, we take care of everything from inverter specification to export paperwork.

Why SMRSS?

The specialist support service that unlocks integrated solar roofing for metal roofers across the UK.

The Challenge & The Solution

The Gap SMRSS Fills

Metal roofing contractors are increasingly being asked to supply and install integrated solar roofing — particularly Roofit.Solar's standing-seam and flat-lock range. The roofing element is straightforward. The electrical, certification and grid-connection work is not — and that's exactly where SMRSS steps in.

Electrical complexity, solved

Integrated solar roofing involves DC systems, inverters, protective devices, and grid connection under Part P requiring MCS-registered engineers. SMRSS provides exactly that — so you don't need to subcontract blindly or turn work away.

📋

MCS compliance, fully managed

MCS certification is the gateway to client incentives — SEG payments, enhanced EPC ratings and planning consent. Our MCS-registered engineers manage the full documentation trail from design to final certificate.

🤝

You stay the lead contractor

SMRSS operates as your specialist subcontractor. The client relationship stays with you. We deliver a white-label or co-branded commissioning pack to your client on your behalf.

📐

Design support from day one

We review architect drawings, advise on panel layout and string configuration, confirm inverter sizing, and produce the full electrical schematic before a panel is fixed. No surprises on site.

How It Works

Six clear steps from your first enquiry to a fully commissioned, MCS-certified solar metal roof.

The Process

Working with SMRSS: Step by Step

1

Roofer contacts SMRSS

Make contact at tender stage or once you've won the contract. We need the architect's drawings or a site survey, roof area and basic project details. A quick call or email is enough — we keep the admin light.

2

We issue a package estimate

Within 24 hours of receiving project information we issue a clear package estimate for the complete electrical and commissioning scope. Please note: the final price will be confirmed following initial consultation, concept design and DNO application — as project requirements can vary significantly.

3

Electrical design & specification

On appointment, SMRSS produces the full PV electrical design — panel layout, string configuration, inverter and battery storage specification, cable routes and protective device schedule. Submitted to and approved before any work begins on site.

4

Materials procurement support

We advise on and assist procurement of balance-of-system components (inverter, battery storage, isolators, cables, metering). Roofit.Solar panels are supplied through Future Tech Solar. Everything on site when your team needs it.

5

Site-based support during roof & panel installation

Our engineers attend site during your roofing programme to provide technical support and oversight during panel installation, ensuring correct integration between the roof structure and the electrical system from day one.

6

Electrical installation & testing

We install all DC and AC wiring, connect the inverter and battery storage, commission the system and carry out full MCS commissioning tests. We communicate directly with your site manager throughout.

7

Certification & handover

We complete and lodge all MCS documentation, notify the District Network Operator (G98/G99/G100 as applicable), register for SEG export payments and hand over a full O&M pack to the end client. Job complete — you invoice, the client generates clean energy.

The Cheltenham Project — a complete Roofit.Solar standing seam roof generating 25kW peak — is featured as the lead case study, with quotes from the roofer, client, and LSTA Director of Training.

The SMRSS Service

The article introduces SMRSS to the wider roofing industry as the specialist electrical and commissioning partner that allows metal roofers to focus entirely on their craft while SMRSS handles everything else.

What the Industry Is Saying

“If roofers are using the Roofit.Solar system, we want them to focus on their expertise — the roof — and be able to leave everything else to us.”

Scott Seville — Cotswold Hill Developments

“The integrated solar panels perfectly complement a traditional standing seam steel roofing project and require the same installation skills. The electrical wiring is simple for the roofer to connect before the system is commissioned.”

John Lewis — Director of Training, Lead Sheet Training Academy

“Clients are delighted and I've had brilliant feedback. It's what they want; they want the look of a standing seam roof but they also want solar — with Roofit.Solar they can now have both. It's a game-changer really.”
